Tips to keep your computer running
smoothly:
1 Maintain your antivirus/antispyware product.
It is easy to "install it and forget it" but paying attention to
your security software can prevent heartache later. Look at
when the last updates were downloaded. It should be at least
within the last week. Double-check that scans did complete.
If your program tells you that it requires your input to finish,
then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the scan.
2 Install programs one at a time.
It's easy to stack up your software and get ready to install your
favorite programs, especially when you have recently reloaded or buy
a new computer. Slow down a little bit. If you install
several programs and then your PC acts funny, how will you know
which program caused the problem? It is much easier to install
a program and verify that it is working correctly before moving on
to the next one, than it is to backtrack and figure out where things
went wrong.
3 Safely close out any windows that pop-up on your
browser.
If you get a strange pop-up message on your screen that requests
that you click OK or Cancel or Yes or No, the best thing to do is
not click on anything in that box! If someone is sneaky enough
to pop-up an advertisement on your PC, it would be a bad idea to
trust them to be honest with the content of their advertisement.
Close out the pop-up window either by clicking on the X in the right
hand corner, by pressing Alt + F4 with the box highlighted, or by
ending the task in the Task Manager.
4 Download free protection tools if you don't subscribe
to an internet security package.
There are free tools for infection cleanup if you do not like the
idea of purchasing an internet security package every year.
While these are free, they are limited and come with no warranties.

AVG has since released version 8.0 which we have seen some problems
with Dell PCs. We do not recommend AVG 8 if you have a Dell
computer at this time.
5 Clean dust, tar from cigarettes, pet hair and other
contaminants out of your computer.
Most overheating problems are caused by dust and other insulators
covering your computer's circuitry and fans. For smokers, cleaning
is even more important as the tar sticks to fan blades and can cause
them to stop turning completely. Removing the side panel and blowing
the dust and other particles out of the computer can be a life
saver. We do not recommend vacuums as the brushes can conduct static
electricity. See below before pictures, a video of how to blow the
dust out, and after pictures of a machine we like to call.....Dusty.
